ROUGH IDEAS FOR OUR
DANCE BODY MIND EXPERIENCE SHOW
IN RANDOM ORDER
MONOLOGUE/ SPEECH IDEAS
Dark stage. Music Cue. Lights up on Claudia - back to the audience.
I am Claudia.
Artist. Mother. Wife. Teacher.
My heart is dance.
My soul is music.
And this is my story.
Music Cue. Claudia faces audience.
SONG (Claudia’s song)
I hear it all the time.
Claudia I’d love to but I can’t dance!
No, my body’s not right.
Seriously, Claudia, I have two left feet.
No, thanks - I don’t wanna look stupid.
And then - the moment that never fails.
Their favourite song comes on the radio.
Their eyes, their face, their whole body ignites.
They go crazy.
And they are lost in the zone.
They can’t control it.
Their body - their soul is being fed with pure joy, pure happiness and yes - power.
For that little moment - they are empowered.
I always wonder why dance is not exactly THIS.
A natural freedom of expression belonging to anyone without fear of judgement.
It’s written in our bones - why do we doubt it - why does it terrify us?
It took me years to realise what that WHY really was.
It was conditioning.
The good woman. The silent one. The one who doesn’t talk too much.
We had been raised to shrink.
Me shrink? Ummm. No.
How could I?
My heart bursts with love!
My actual soul burns fierce and wild like forest fire - unchecked and unforgiving. My juicy hips - my limbs - my curves - all burn with desire at the sound of a drum. At the call of a melody - I am a willing servant to the dance.
I am a bearer of life. I am a lover. A partner. Artist. Explorer. I am a CEO.
And yet - I have starved myself.
To make me smaller.
I have changed my self.
To make me shrink.
I have grabbed, thirsted, starved, prayed, snatched, screamed, cried, ached and bled.
And the only thing that ever healed me, held me, quenched me, fed me - answered my cries - was music.
But I am not alone.
How are you feeling?
Are you tired?
Are you angry?
Allow it. Hear it. LISTEN to that voice.
Then tell it to Fuck the fuck off.
I am Claudia.
I am YOU.
We are the wild ones.
We live to dance - whether we know it or not.
To dance with others.
To dance with ourselves.
You are strength.
Tonight we dance for you.
For you are more powerful than you dare to be.
You are burning. You are on fire.
And we are woman.
